Coming from an engineering background, I emigrated from the UK to New Zealand in 1973. As the father of two adult children, I have lived and worked in the Tauranga area since that time. I have been in private practice with Bay Counselling & Therapy Service since 1988, where I have worked with a variety of clients (individuals and couples), on a range of issues, including;

  • Relationships
  • Trauma
  • Abuse
  • Grief
  • Redundancy
  • Re-decision
  • Assertiveness
  • Communication
  • Supervision

My training in this field started in 1982, with a Community Social Work Course from Waikato University, and Tauranga District Council of Social Services. This led me into a Community Counselling Course with the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic (3 years), and then onto Family Therapy training in Auckland (4 years part time), studying Narrative and Systemic approaches.

In 1992 I embarked on a series of training and supervision courses with the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists (N.Z.A.P), studying Psychodynamic Theory from an Object Relations/Relational perspective. I am a full member of N.Z.A.P. Part of my on-going training involves attending workshops and conferences relevant to my client base.

Over the course of my training I have also studied a variety of clinical supervision approaches by way of workshops. I am currently supervising several people from a variety of agencies.

Personal Supervision

I engage in regular clinical supervision of my caseload, on a one to one basis, in addition to this, we at Bay Counselling & Therapy Service have peer supervision every Wednesday morning for 3 hours. Working with a diverse cultural group of clients I am also aware of the need for cultural supervision. This is addressed quarterly and on an, as needed basis, with Trudy Ake Ngati Ranginui/Tuwharetoa.

Personal Interests

My personal interests are, the ocean (walking by it, swimming in it and sailing on it). I enjoy cooking and entertaining, art, music and furniture renovation.
