Personal

My name is Jenny and I was raised in a farming community in the South Island and then went to high school in Christchurch. I have also lived in Wellington, Auckland, Waikato and overseas, and I now make my permanent home in Tauranga. I have attended Canterbury University, Bay of Plenty Polytechnic and Wintec in Hamilton for my tertiary education.

Prior to becoming a counsellor I have worked in the investment, pharmaceutical, and engineering industries in various roles ranging from sales and marketing to accounting and office management/administration.

I am a mum of three teenage children, two attend college in Tauranga, and one is attending University. Their various activities keep me busy and challenged.

Outside of work I enjoy running, gym, reading, relaxing, beach, travelling, watching sport and spending time with my family and friends.

Counselling

I work with individuals, couples, youth and families. I have specific experience with at-risk youth and families who are in crisis, along with relationship counselling for couples, where I primarily use E.F.T (Emotionally Focused Therapy).

I work with a range of issues, which include but is not exclusive to:

  • Relationships
  • Parenting
  • Step-parenting
  • Communication
  • Intimacy and Sex Therapy
  • Blended Family Relationships
  • Alcohol & Drug Addiction Counselling
  • Stress Management / Relaxation
  • Sexual Abuse Counselling
  • Anxiety & Depression
  • Domestic Violence
  • Grief & Loss

I have a firm belief that people can change, that couples can learn to love again, that youth can be supported to make healthy choices through turbulent times and that families can find a way forward to where they feel secure, connected and loved within their family. I am dedicated to my counselling, to offering support, and to working collaboratively to find strategies and solutions for dealing with issues that have become overwhelming for people.

On-Going Professional Development & Supervision

I am dedicated to keeping informed and up to date with counselling practice and theory and I regularly attend various training sessions and workshops / seminars. I have monthly external supervision and I also participate in weekly peer supervision and three-monthly cultural supervision.
